Animal Rights seeks transparency regarding livestock disposal company

Animal Rights has initiated legal action to compel the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) to disclose information concerning Rendac Son B.V., a company responsible for processing and destroying animal carcasses and materials under government mandate.

The request, made under the Open Government Act (Woo), covers the period from September 7, 2024, to January 1, 2026. Animal Rights is specifically seeking reports regarding instances where live animals were submitted for destruction. The organization cites a specific incident in August 2025 where two live chickens were found in disposal containers, an act that constitutes a violation of the Animal Act.

While the NVWA and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) previously decided to make this information public, Rendac Son B.V. has filed an objection and sought a preliminary injunction to prevent the disclosure of its name and address. The legal battle follows years of similar requests and jurisprudence regarding transparency in the livestock industry.
