Animal sanctuaries offer free lodging for volunteers in Hawaii and Greece

Animal sanctuaries in Hawaii and Greece are offering volunteer programs that provide free accommodation in exchange for animal care duties.

In Hawaii, Selah’s Pig Sanctuary in Keaau is seeking volunteers to assist with its pig rescue operations. Participants are required to work 20 hours per week, performing tasks such as feeding animals, cleaning enclosures, and general maintenance. The program offers lodging in a cabin with basic amenities, including electricity and internet, and is available through late 2026. Volunteers are responsible for their own food, transportation, and travel costs.

On the Greek island of Syros, God’s Little People Cat Rescue is preparing to open applications in September for volunteers for the 2027 season. Selected individuals will provide approximately five hours of daily care for cats, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring their health. While accommodation is provided at no cost, volunteers must cover their own personal expenses, meals, and travel to the island.
