Animal shelters use enrichment and donations to support dogs during summer heat

Animal shelters and rescue organizations are utilizing enrichment activities and donations to provide relief for dogs during high summer temperatures. Through the iHeartDogs Beat the Heat Care Package Campaign, supported by Hero VIP Club members, organizations including The Animal Protection League, MidSouth Animal Welfare Foundation, and Karl’s Canine Krew received supplies such as cooling toys, shaded playtime, and dog-friendly treats.

Individual shelter dogs are also benefiting from personalized outings. At The Animal Protection League, a dog named Lola participated in a lakeside adventure to help build confidence outside the kennel. Similarly, at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington, a dog named Junior experienced a day of exploration and human interaction, highlighting his affectionate nature as he awaits adoption.
