Animal welfare and control efforts reported in Brazil

In Campos, the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ) has intensified patrols to remove medium and large animals from public roads. Between October 23 and October 27, officials seized 15 animals, including nine cattle and six horses, from various neighborhoods. CCZ Director Carlos Morales noted that owners are responsible for animals on public streets, and failure to do so can result in fines and legal consequences due to traffic risks. Owners have five business days to reclaim animals after paying required fees.

In Lages, Santa Catarina, Military Police and environmental authorities rescued 29 animals from a precarious property. The rescue included 20 dogs found chained with short leads, malnourished, and without food or water, as well as nine pigs kept in cramped, enclosed conditions. The Coordination of Animal Welfare (COBEA) has taken custody of the animals while authorities investigate the case for potential animal cruelty charges.
