Animal welfare and municipal health fee disputes spark local criticism

In Córdoba, Mexico, local councilwoman Nayibe Sacre González has faced backlash from animal rescue activists following her claims regarding the limited budget for the Animal Health Center. Activists pointed out a significant disparity between the center’s annual budget of 37,500 pesos and the councilwoman’s monthly salary, which exceeds 98,000 pesos. Rescuers are demanding greater transparency, the immediate application of animal cruelty fines, and for the city council to provide free sterilization services.

In a separate matter, council members Natalia González and Evelyn Acevedo have challenged a proposal to introduce new fees within the municipal health system. The 2027 Tariff Ordinance includes charges such as 30,000 pesos for health services not covered by Primary Health Care, 5,000 pesos for disposable supplies, and 80,000 pesos for prosthetics. Critics argue these costs could create economic barriers to essential medical care and demand clarity on which citizens will be required to pay.
