Animal welfare and public health concerns reported in Peru and Mexico

Various regions in Peru and Mexico are reporting significant issues regarding animal welfare and public health. In San Jerónimo, residents discovered more than 40 dog heads and limbs abandoned in trash piles along Avenida Pedro Mendigure, sparking concerns over animal cruelty and potential illegal meat supplies for informal food establishments.

In Guanajuato, Mexico, several distinct animal-related crises have emerged. Residents in Salamanca reported the suspected poisoning of dogs and birds via contaminated food. In the Las Momias area, citizens are demanding action against dog overpopulation following frequent attacks on pedestrians. Additionally, in Acámbaro, authorities are investigating a suspected case of screwworm (gusano barrenador) after a street dog died from an infected wound, raising fears for local livestock.

These incidents have prompted calls for increased intervention from environmental prosecutors, veterinary services, and local municipal authorities to address sanitation and safety risks.
