Animal welfare incidents reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, a mare and her foal were rescued on the Kruzi plateau near Livno after the mother became trapped in mud. Passersby intervened to pull the animal from the mire, allowing her to stand again. The Kruzi plateau is a karst highland known for its population of several hundred wild horses.
In Croatia, police have arrested one individual following the killing of a young female dog in the Parag Roma settlement. The Međimurje Police Administration is conducting a criminal investigation into the suspected crime of ‘killing or torturing animals’ under Article 205 of the Penal Code. The Prijatelji Čakovec animal shelter reported ongoing issues with animal welfare in the area, noting high numbers of uncontrolled breeding and untreated illnesses.
