Animal welfare incidents reported in Taiwan and Hong Kong

In Taiwan, a man in Taoyuan's Luzhu District has been reported to the police after video footage surfaced showing him repeatedly throwing a white dog into a herd of cattle. The dog was seen fleeing in fear, only to be thrown back into the herd by the owner. Local officials stated the actions likely violate the Animal Protection Act regarding the harassment or abuse of animals.

In Hong Kong, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has sparked controversy following the seizure of several dogs suspected of being fighting breeds. In one instance, an 8-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier was taken by authorities after a neighbor reported it as a fighting dog. The owner disputed the classification, claiming the dog is gentle and was misidentified.

Following a separate incident involving a dog in Stanley, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department issued a reminder to pet owners. They emphasized that fighting dogs or known dangerous breeds are prohibited from entering licensed restaurants. Owners who are uncertain about their pet's breed or lineage are advised not to bring them into dining establishments to avoid legal disputes and ensure public safety.
