Animal welfare initiatives and protests reported in Quito and Soria

In Quito, Ecuador, the Municipal Animal Welfare Unit (UBA) and the Refugios Unidos network are organizing a pet adoption fair at Parque Bicentenario on August 30. The event aims to find permanent homes for dozens of rescued dogs and cats. Participating animals have received vaccinations, sterilization, and recent deworming to ensure they are ready for new families.

In Soria, Spain, animal protection associations, including Asociación Protectora de Animales Redención, have called for a protest on September 6 at the Plaza Mayor. The demonstration opposes the Soria City Council's decision to outsource the management of feline colonies to a private pest control company. Protesters are advocating for the continued involvement of local volunteer colony managers and are participating in a broader national movement to demand compliance with animal welfare laws.
