Animal welfare initiatives and regulations reported in Germany

Various animal welfare initiatives and regulations are being implemented across different German regions. In Düsseldorf, Ikea has partnered with the local animal welfare association to promote pet adoption. Instead of live animals, the store displays profiles and portraits of shelter animals, such as rabbits and chickens, integrated into showroom displays to encourage interest in finding them homes.

In Hagen, a new cat protection ordinance is set to take effect on September 1. The regulation mandates the neutering of free-roaming cats and requires owners to register their pets. This measure aims to control the growing feline population, reduce animal suffering caused by malnutrition and disease, and improve urban coexistence.

Additionally, the Moers animal shelter is seeking a new home for Dezi, a ten-year-old dog. Despite having a heart condition managed by medication and limited hearing, the shelter describes him as an active and cheerful dog who enjoys water.
