Animal welfare initiatives receive funding boosts in Australia
Animal welfare initiatives are receiving significant support in Australia through both private fundraising and government grants.
RSPCA ACT has launched its ‘Give to Get Them Home’ campaign, aiming to raise $300,000. To encourage contributions, the organization is offering a dollar-for-dollar match on donations. The funds are intended to cover veterinary care, behavioral support, vaccinations, and desexing for animals in the Canberra region. The organization expects a high volume of animals, approximately 600, to arrive at its Weston shelter over the next three months.
In Victoria, the Animal Welfare Fund has reopened with $1.7 million available for Round 14 of its grant program. Minister for Agriculture Michaela Settle announced that grants of up to $100,000 are available for animal shelters, foster networks, and responsible pet ownership groups. Additionally, not-for-profit and low-cost veterinary services can apply for up to $200,000 to improve access to care. The program has distributed more than $16 million since 2014 to support companion animal welfare.
