Animal welfare initiatives reported in Greece and Brazil

The Syro Cats shelter on the Greek island of Syros is offering a volunteer program for animal caregivers. Participants receive housing, breakfast, and Wi-Fi in exchange for working five hours a day, five days a week. Tasks include feeding animals, cleaning spaces, administering treatments, socializing kittens, and assisting with sterilization captures. The program requires a minimum stay of one month and prefers applicants over age 25. While accommodation is provided in a shared house, volunteers must cover their own travel, lunch, dinner, and personal expenses.

In Cuiabá, Brazil, the City Council has passed a second vote on a bill to establish a Municipal Bank for Dog and Cat Food, Products, and Medicines. Authored by Council President Paula Calil, the initiative aims to support abandoned animals, NGOs, independent protectors, and vulnerable families. The bank will collect donations of food, veterinary medicine, and hygiene products through partnerships and seizures. The Executive Power, specifically the Adjunct Secretariat for Animal Welfare, will manage the distribution and oversight to ensure items are provided free of charge and not sold commercially.
