Animal welfare: Rescue efforts and funds support abandoned pets

Various animal rescue efforts have highlighted the ongoing issues of pet abandonment and the importance of community intervention. In the United States, a blind pitbull named Poly, found abandoned in a park, has inspired the creation of ‘Poly’s Fund’. This fund aims to cover her specialized medical costs and provide financial support to other rescue organizations for expensive diagnostic tests.

In Italy, several incidents have drawn attention to animal welfare. In Belpasso, a dog required leg amputation after being struck by a vehicle and left by the driver; local authorities are investigating the incident via surveillance footage. In Massa Lubrense, three puppies were rescued from a difficult-to-reach area under a bridge following a coordinated effort by firefighters, police, and volunteers. Additionally, an officer rescued a malnourished dog named Khloe Jay from a dangerous intersection, subsequently adopting the animal to ensure its recovery from various infections and parasites.
