Animal welfare violations documented at Ivrea and Rivarolo markets

Activists from the “Non in vendita” group and the Turin-based “Animal” association have documented severe welfare and hygiene violations at weekly markets in Ivrea and Rivarolo Canavese. An investigation conducted between 2025 and 2026, supported by footage from the Rai 3 program “Mi Manda,” highlights critical conditions for live animals being sold.

Documented abuses include birds left in cages exposed to temperatures exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, injured quails, and poultry in apparent agony. In Ivrea, footage reportedly showed a vendor killing live trout with repeated blows. Activists are calling for the regional government to immediately ban the retail sale of live animals due to these concerns regarding animal welfare, hygiene, and food safety.
