Animasyros 2026 International Animation Festival to return to Syros Sept 21‑27

The Animasyros International Animation Festival will hold its 19th edition on the Greek island of Syros from 21 to 27 September 2026. The programme features seven competition sections, special tributes, a Market hub for the Eastern Mediterranean industry, educational workshops, a VR lounge and new international and local collaborations.

The festival’s central theme commemorates the 200th anniversary of Ermoupoli’s founding in 1826. Irish animation is highlighted through a partnership with Animation Ireland, support from the Irish Embassy in Greece and Culture Ireland. Screenings will include recent Irish productions such as Vincent Gallagher’s *Second to None*, Aidan McAteer’s *Deadly* and Oscar‑nominated *Late Afternoon* by Louise Bagnall, with a discussion led by Andrew Fitzpatrick, a pioneer of Irish animation. Guests include sound designer Olivier Calvert and producer Imogen Sutton.
