Animated documentary film on the Szekler Division to premiere
An animated documentary film titled ‘The Stories of the Szekler Division’ is set to premiere on November 5 in Kovászna, with subsequent screenings planned across other locations in the Szeklerland region.
The film explores the history of the Szekler Division, which was formed during the turbulent months following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy at the end of World War I. While the unit's history has rarely been presented publicly, its memory has been preserved through family stories, personal recollections, and local communities.
Rather than focusing solely on military history, the creators aim to reconstruct the spirit of the era and its impact on Transylvania and the 20th century. The project draws heavily on the collected stories and memories of writer József Gazda. By utilizing found footage animation alongside archival materials, the film seeks to visualize events for which no motion picture footage exists, focusing on the personal fates, decisions, and emotions of the individuals involved.
