Animation and genre film festivals announced for Moldova

The Animest Chișinău International Animation Film Festival will hold its 12th edition from October 29 to November 1, 2026, at the Odeon Cinema in Chișinău. Supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute ‘Mihai Eminescu’, the event will feature animation from Romania, Moldova, and Europe, including workshops, artist meetings, and educational activities.

Special highlights for the 2026 edition include a centenary screening of Lotte Reiniger’s ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed’ with live music, a retrospective of Moldovan artist Ghenadie Popescu, and a program celebrating the 80th anniversary of the FAMU film school in Prague. The festival also includes a ‘Minimest’ section dedicated to children.

Additionally, the Action/Crime/Mystery Film & Screenplay Festival is accepting submissions for various formats, including short films, feature films, screenplays, and animations. Selected works may receive promotion through screenings in Toronto or Los Angeles, virtual streaming, and interviews for industry podcasts and blogs.
