Animation festivals highlight industry growth and youth talent

Several international animation and youth film festivals are showcasing the evolving landscape of the industry. In Brazil, Recife will host the 16th Animage Festival this November. As the largest animation event in the country, this edition introduces a competitive feature film category and ‘Animage Conecta’, a business-focused program featuring pitching sessions, workshops, and masterclasses with professionals such as Emmy winner Sarah de Gaudemar and director Hugo Covarrubias.

In Rio de Janeiro, the International Young Filmmaker Festival (FIPC) is running from October 18 to 24, highlighting productions by children and adolescents. The festival features works like ‘Circo dos Horrores’ and emphasizes the importance of early interest in cinematic arts, such as stop-motion animation.

Additionally, the 25th Florianópolis Children's Film Showcase recently concluded, awarding prizes to films including ‘Escola de ensino fenomenal II’ and ‘Um pequeno grande dia’. Meanwhile, in Portugal, the 50th Cinanima International Animation Film Festival in Espinho is set for November, featuring a 17-day program and a new ‘Little Dolphin Award’ dedicated to youth audiences.
