AnimaWings files for insolvency amid fleet technical issues

Romanian airline AnimaWings has filed for insolvency/judicial reorganization with the Bucharest Tribunal. The move follows a period of severe operational and financial instability.

The company announced the gradual suspension of its six Airbus A220-300 aircraft due to recurring technical challenges. This decision has led to numerous flight cancellations and delays across various routes, including destinations like Cluj-Napoca, Iași, and Timișoara. AnimaWings is currently attempting to maintain operations using its two remaining Airbus A320 aircraft.

Financially, the airline is facing significant pressure. Reports indicate that AnimaWings recorded a loss of 110.7 million lei in 2025, a sharp decline from a profit in 2024. Total company debts have risen to 157 million lei. Additionally, the airline faces outstanding debts to the state budget of approximately 11.5 million lei, as well as legal claims from Iași Airport and Fraport Greece for unpaid amounts.
