Anime recommendations for fans of Hunter x Hunter

For fans of the strategic and dark narrative style found in Yoshihiro Togashi’s ‘Hunter x Hunter’, several anime series offer similar themes, complex power systems, and well-constructed worlds.

‘Yu Yu Hakusho’, also created by Togashi and produced by Studio Pierrot, is a primary recommendation. It follows Yusuke Urameshi, a juvenile delinquent who becomes a spiritual detective after dying to save a child. The series is noted for its character dynamics and high-stakes tournament arcs, such as the Dark Tournament.

‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ is highlighted as a modern successor that shares a combat philosophy with ‘Hunter x Hunter’. Creator Gege Akutami has acknowledged Togashi’s influence, which is evident in the series’ use of cursed energy—a system defined by specific rules, limitations, and tactical requirements rather than pure brute force.

‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’ is also noted for its strong character relationships and the principle of equivalent exchange within its alchemy system.
