Anita Mui ashes theft: Suspect identified

Police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation regarding the theft of the ashes of the late Hong Kong singer Anita Mui. Through the restoration of surveillance footage, investigators identified a suspect wearing a temple staff uniform.

The suspect, identified as an employee named ‘Ah Keung’, was seen leaving the columbarium and entering a wooded area on a morning in early July. Records indicate that the individual fled to Southeast Asia shortly after the incident.

Analysts suggest the theft may have originally been intended for extortion, though the sudden passing of Mui’s mother may have disrupted the perpetrator's plans. While a reward of 50,000 Hong Kong dollars was offered for the return of the ashes, some observers have expressed skepticism regarding the motives behind the reward announcement.
