Anitta follows MBL leader Renan Santos on Instagram

Brazilian singer Anitta has drawn attention after following Renan Santos, leader of the Movimento Brasil Livre (MBL), on Instagram. This social media move follows criticism from fans who pressured the artist to record videos endorsing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the second round of elections.

Anitta stated she does not intend to produce content requesting votes for Lula, arguing that such material would only reach people who already share her political views. She also expressed concern that her image could be exploited by political opponents for opposition campaigns.

Renan Santos, who ran for president in the first round under the Missão party, described being followed by the singer as “emblematic” during a live broadcast. While addressing the interaction, Santos distanced his group from the Bolsonarista candidacy, stating he has “loathing” for Flávio Bolsonaro, and noted that his voters remain free to make their own choices in the runoff.
