ANKA Technical Solutions introduces BIRDIE water conservation system to Philippines

ANKA Technical Solutions Corp. has announced the local availability of BIRDIE, a modular floating cover system designed to combat water loss in the Philippines. As the country faces prolonged El Niño conditions, which climate forecasts from PAGASA suggest could extend into the first half of 2027, water conservation has become a critical priority for agriculture, industry, and utilities.

Produced by the Italian manufacturer Valsir S. p. A., the BIRDIE system uses interlocking, UV-stabilized recycled High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) modules to cover open reservoirs and storage basins. The technology is reported to reduce water evaporation by up to 95% and suppress surface algae growth by up to 99%.

The system is designed for scalability and ease of use, requiring no major civil works or specialized machinery for installation. It features an expected service life exceeding 25 years and aims to mitigate issues such as odors, insects, and external contamination in stored water reserves.
