Ankara and Istanbul municipalities hold health and harvest events for seasonal farm workers
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality partnered with Şereflikoçhisar Municipality to organize a health and culture gathering for seasonal agricultural workers and their families in the Karabük neighbourhood. The event provided occupational safety and first‑aid training, information on safe pesticide use, mobile shower facilities, hygiene kits, health screenings by ABB medical teams, a cinema screening on a trailer and toys for children. Health Department Head Mümtaz Yavuz highlighted the aim of improving working and living conditions and expanding preventive health services, while Şereflikoçhisar Mayor Mustafa Koçak stressed the municipality’s commitment to serving all residents.
In Istanbul, the Metropolitan Municipality staged a Harvest Festival at the Çatalca Closed Market. Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan announced that municipal support now reaches over 10,800 agricultural producers, noting the distribution of more than 70 million vegetable seedlings, cash subsidies totaling 667 million lira for inputs such as fuel and fertilizer, and a 300 million‑lira allocation for 2024. Participants harvested vegetables in a local field, illustrating the city’s effort to green a quarter of its agricultural land.
