Ankara antique exhibition features rare 130-year-old Ottoman banner

An antique exhibition held in the Çankaya district of Ankara drew significant attention, highlighted by the display of a rare 130-year-old Ottoman banner dating back to the 1890s.

Organized by the Anadolu Antikacıları Kültür ve Yaşatma Derneği (Anatolian Antique Dealers Culture and Preservation Association) in a shopping mall, the two-day event featured 80 vendors. The association's president, Şükrü Sarı, stated the goal was to introduce antique culture to a wider audience and expand such events across Turkey.

Collector Köksal Gülcemal presented the velvet Ottoman banner, which he described as a rare ‘dergah sancağı’ associated with the Kuva-yi Milliye. Gülcemal noted that the banner features a crescent moon and stars representing the seven Turkic republics, claiming it is a unique piece in Turkey.
