Ankara Chamber of Commerce and Mukono Chamber propose trade protocol
The Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) and the Mukono Regional Chamber of Commerce in Uganda are moving toward a formal cooperation protocol to boost bilateral trade and investment.
During a meeting in Ankara, ATO Chairman Gürsel Baran hosted a delegation led by Juma Kutakulimuuki Kalema, President of the Mukono Regional Chamber of Commerce. The discussions focused on expanding economic ties, noting that current trade volumes—totaling 160 million dollars, with 120 million dollars in Turkish exports—do not fully reflect the potential between the two nations.
Kalema highlighted Uganda's demand for Turkish machinery, road and construction equipment, and spare parts, suggesting that Turkish products should be more widely promoted in the East African market. In response, Baran emphasized Ankara's diverse production capabilities in sectors such as defense, aviation, healthcare, textiles, and education.
The proposed protocol aims to facilitate direct business-to-business (B2B) meetings, organize reciprocal business delegations, and create new investment opportunities between Turkish and Ugandan entrepreneurs.
