Ankara elderly couple's apartment cleared of a truckload of garbage
Municipal officials in Ankara's Mamak district responded to complaints about foul odors emanating from two apartments in Mehtap Mahallesi. The residents, an elderly couple aged 90 and 85, had turned the dwellings into makeshift trash storage sites, accumulating enough waste to fill a truck. Cleaning crews removed roughly 20 shovelfuls of rubbish from one flat and a full truckload from the other, with plans to clear the second apartment later in the day. Local ward head Fazlı Dinçdemir noted that the couple had been living in the building for many years and that neighbors had repeatedly reported the unsanitary conditions.
The operation highlighted the challenges of addressing hazardous living conditions among vulnerable seniors and the involvement of both sanitation and law‑enforcement personnel in the cleanup.
