Ankara Ethnography Museum hosts 12,000-year jewelry history exhibition

The Ankara Ethnography Museum is hosting a new exhibition titled ‘Elde Vefa, Gözde Zarafet: Takı Sanatının 12. 000 Yıllık Öyküsü’, which showcases 12,000 years of human jewelry history. The exhibition spans from the Epipaleolithic Period through to the Ottoman Empire.

Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy visited the exhibition, which features 550 artifacts curated from the collections of 60 different museum directorates. Notably, 276 of these pieces are being presented to the public for the first time. The collection includes materials ranging from stone and bone to glass, gold, and silver.

The exhibition was organized in alignment with the International Council of Museums (ICOM) theme for International Museums Day 2026, ‘Museums Uniting a Divided World’. The display aims to demonstrate how jewelry serves as a historical document reflecting the culture, beliefs, and social life of different eras.
