Ankara expands rail infrastructure with new metro and high-speed rail projects
Ankara is undergoing significant rail infrastructure developments. A contract worth approximately 34.04 billion TRY has been signed with Çelikler Taahhüt for the 8.5-kilometer Ankara YHT Gar-Siteler rail line. This project includes the construction of tracks and the installation of advanced electromechanical systems, with a delivery timeline of 1,440 days.
Additionally, the Ankara M2-M3 Metro Connection Project has received Environmental Impact Assessment approval. This 18.62-kilometer line will connect districts such as Ümitköy, Batıkent, Turgut Özal, and İnönü through nine stations. The project aims to reduce travel times and is expected to serve over 3,000 passengers daily by 2030.
In the broader rail sector, TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ is considering price increases for high-speed train (YHT), main line, and regional train tickets. Discussions are ongoing regarding potential increases, with a rate of approximately 8.5% to 9% currently under consideration.
