Ankara family files criminal complaint after stress toy explodes and burns child
An 11-year-old boy, Furkan Seçkin, sustained second-degree burns to his foot after a soft and flexible stress toy exploded while he was playing with it in Ankara, Turkey.
The incident occurred after the child placed the toy in a refrigerator to make it firmer. Upon removing it and playing with it the following morning, the toy burst, releasing gel that caused redness, skin peeling, and burns. The boy was treated at Yenimahalle Training and Research Hospital.
The child's parents, Hümeyra and Erdal Seçkin, have filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, requesting charges of ‘negligent injury’ against those responsible. The family alleges that the product lacked sufficient safety warnings on its packaging and is calling for the toy to be withdrawn from the market to prevent similar incidents involving other children.
