Ankara metro stations shut for NATO summit, traffic restrictions end July 8

Two Ankara rail stations—Söğütözü on the M2 line and Bahçelievler on the ANKARAY line—were temporarily closed to passengers as a security measure during the NATO Heads of State and Government summit on 7–8 July 2026. The closures were coordinated by the Ankara Governor’s Office and the municipal transit authority (EGO) and applied only to those stations; all other metro and ANKARAY services continued to run on schedule.

Comprehensive traffic restrictions around the presidential complex, summit hotels, and several major boulevards were also in place. These road closures and limited access routes are scheduled to be lifted at 23:59 on 8 July, after security assessments, with traffic expected to reopen gradually.

The measures were intended to ensure the safety of the summit delegates and residents, and normal rail and road operations will resume once the NATO summit concludes.
