Ankara Metropolitan Municipality installs canopies at 19 metro stations
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has launched a project to install canopies at 19 metro stations and various underpass exits across the city. Managed by the Urban Aesthetics Department, the initiative aims to protect escalators and mechanical equipment from adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, and hail.
By shielding these components, the municipality intends to extend the service life of the equipment, reduce mechanical wear and corrosion, and lower overall maintenance and repair costs. The project is also designed to improve passenger safety and comfort by reducing slip hazards and providing shelter at station entrances and exits.
Work has already been completed at several locations, including Yüksel Street, Sakarya Street, the Ministry of Agriculture stations, and the Koru D exit. Installations at the Akay underpasses and Karanfil Street are expected to be finished within a week. The remaining sites, including Emek İş Hanı, Ziya Gökalp, Meşrutiyet, Necatibey, MTA, and AKM stations, will be addressed in phases, with the entire program projected to conclude within several months.
