Ankara Metropolitan Municipality installs sirens on escalators

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) has implemented a new siren-based warning system on escalators to prevent the misuse of emergency stop buttons. The measure aims to reduce service disruptions caused by individuals pressing the buttons for non-emergency reasons.

When an emergency stop button is pressed, the system triggers an audible siren to alert bystanders and create awareness. This is intended to ensure that the buttons are reserved strictly for genuine emergencies and to prevent unnecessary maintenance issues and passenger inconvenience.

The system has been initially deployed at five high-traffic locations: the Sincan Gimsa underpass, Armada Shopping Mall, Kentpark Shopping Mall, Hacı Bayram, and the Kızılay Metro station. Officials from the ABB Urban Maintenance and Repair Directorate stated that they are working to expand this siren system to other escalators within their network, which includes a total of 462 units.
