Ankara Metropolitan Municipality opens Ankapark to the public for free
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) has announced that Ankapark, a theme park previously commissioned during Melih Gökçek’s tenure, has been opened to the public free of charge. The decision follows a public survey in which over 80,000 citizens participated; more than 90% of respondents expressed a preference for the site to be converted into a green space and recreation area.
The municipality highlighted significant financial concerns regarding the project, stating that $801 million in public resources were wasted. Specific costs mentioned include $9.49 million for Transformers figures, $5.73 million for items from China, and $2.78 million for dinosaur attractions.
To ensure transparency, the ABB has published all relevant documents regarding the project's history and the use of public funds on a dedicated website. While Mayor Mansur Yavaş previously filed criminal complaints to investigate those responsible for the public loss, the municipality noted that those specific legal proceedings had resulted in a lack of prosecution.
