Ankara murder cases: trial of Gülhan Taş killing and teen stabbing

On 11 June 2026 the Ankara 33rd Heavy Criminal Court heard the case of Mehmet Say, accused of stabbing his former girlfriend Gülhan Taş to death on 8 December 2025. The court ordered that Say remain in custody and postponed the hearing to 24 September, noting the suspect’s statement, “Sevdiğim kadını istemsizce öldürdüm.”

A separate incident on 9 June 2026 in Etimesgut’s Şeyh Şamil neighbourhood involved a 17‑year‑old who stabbed a 16‑year‑old boy, K.A., after a dispute. Despite emergency treatment, K.A. died. Police quickly apprehended the suspect and also detained his father.

Both cases highlight rising concerns over violent crimes in Ankara.
