Ankara NATO summit underscores transatlantic defense industry cooperation
NATO Secretary General Radmilla Shekerinska said the NATO summit held in Ankara demonstrated the value of transatlantic cooperation in the defence industry. She highlighted that joint projects involving Turkish, European, United States, Canadian and British firms are essential to strengthen the alliance’s security.
She noted that industrial production capacity remains inadequate in Europe, the United States and Canada, and that tighter cooperation is needed to meet NATO’s military‑capacity requirements. The parallel NATO Defence Industry Forum showed how deeply integrated supply chains now span both sides of the Atlantic.
She described the Ankara meeting as “transformative and an extraordinary success,” pointing to increased defence spending by European allies and their positive response to U.S. calls for a larger burden‑sharing. She emphasized the need for fewer barriers and a more powerful industrial output to translate higher budgets into concrete military capabilities.
