Ankara places public employees on administrative leave for NATO summit
The Ankara Governor's Office announced that, from 6 July to 12 July 2026, civil servants working in the districts of Altındağ, Çankaya, Etimesgut, Gölbaşı, Keçiören, Mamak, Pursaklar, Sincan and Yenimahalle will be counted as administratively on leave while the 36th NATO State and Government Heads Summit is held in the capital. Personnel engaged in essential services such as health, security, emergency response, transport and logistics are exempt and will continue to work. The order also suspends public events, exams, conferences and weddings unless special permission is obtained.
During the summit, four police officers who had eaten the meals provided to staff reported feeling unwell and were taken to hospital. After examinations, authorities confirmed that “no evidence of food‑borne poisoning was found” and the officers were in good health. The meals had been prepared under the supervision of Ankara’s agricultural and health directorates.
