Ankara security probe investigates Güvenpark protest organizer

Security authorities in Ankara are investigating a protest held at Güvenpark by individuals identifying themselves as veterans and relatives of martyrs. Investigations into the organizers have revealed details regarding Erdem Çerçioğlu, the President of the İzmir Torbalı Gazi and Martyr Families Mutual Aid and Solidarity Association.

Military records indicate that Çerçioğlu, who served as a corporal in the 49th Mechanized Infantry Brigade in Muş, was discharged after being deemed unfit for military service. Records show that on July 22, 1998, he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound rather than being injured during combat against terrorism. Following his medical process, he was officially discharged on May 26, 1999.

According to the Social Security Institution (SGK), Çerçioğlu was granted a 6th-degree disability pension under the Anti-Terror Law (Law No. 3713). This represents the lowest tier of disability assessment regarding loss of working capacity. Security units are continuing to examine the organizational structure of the Güvenpark protest and the connections between participants.
