Ankara security teams deploy K9 units for 24/7 patrols

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) ANFA Security General Directorate is utilizing K9 teams to maintain 24/7 security across the capital. The team currently consists of 14 dogs in various stages of development, including puppies, dogs in training, and active-duty personnel.

The training process begins at birth at the ANFA Security Training Center. Following a nursing and care period, dogs begin basic obedience training at approximately four months of age. Once they complete their teething phase, they undergo specialized branch training based on their intended roles. At one year old, the dogs must pass the Service Dog and Handler Exam organized by the General Directorate of Security to receive official identification and begin active duty.

These K9 units patrol parks, recreation areas, facilities, and historical or touristic sites throughout Ankara. After completing their service, which typically lasts around eight years, the retired dogs continue to be cared for by ANFA Security to ensure they live out their lives in safe and appropriate conditions.
