Turkey enforces 13‑day bans for NATO summit, hosts parliamentary meeting

The Ankara Governorship announced extensive security measures for the 36th NATO Summit scheduled for 7‑8 July 2026. To ensure the safety of delegations and public order, a 13‑day restriction was imposed from 28 June to 10 July 2026, prohibiting public gatherings, protests, demonstrations, meetings, and the operation of any unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) within the city. The ban is codified under Turkey’s public assembly and security laws.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) confirmed that Istanbul will host the NATO Parliamentary Summit on 28‑29 June 2026. The event will bring together parliament speakers and delegations from the alliance’s 32 member states, NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Marcos Perestrello, and senior NATO officials. The summit will include a meeting of parliamentary leaders at Dolmabahçe Palace and a site visit to the Baykar Defence Technology Center, highlighting Turkey’s role in defence cooperation.

Both actions are part of Turkey’s preparation for the NATO leaders’ summit that will follow in Ankara, underscoring its diplomatic and security priorities ahead of the international gathering.
