Ankara students face school transportation shortages

Students in Ankara, including those in special education classes, are facing significant transportation challenges following the start of the new school year. In the Çankaya district, several schools have been unable to provide the free shuttle services required by national education regulations. Local authorities stated that the service contract could not be signed because a company filed an objection to the tender, a matter currently pending a decision from the Public Procurement Authority.

In the Polatlı district, the issue has reached the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. DEVA Party Ankara Deputy İdris Şahin submitted a written parliamentary inquiry to Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin regarding transportation delays. The inquiry highlights that hundreds of students in rural neighborhoods, including 186 students with special needs, are unable to reach their schools regularly. Şahin questioned why these services were not finalized before the academic year began and requested information on measures to prevent future disruptions to students' right to education.
