Ankara tourism potential remains underutilized due to transport and promotion gaps

Ankara possesses significant potential in health, thermal, cultural, and historical tourism, yet these assets are not yet fully reflected in visitor numbers or revenue. Hilmi Yaman, President of the Ankaralılar Association, notes that a primary obstacle is the lack of sufficient international direct flights, as many travelers to Turkey transit through Istanbul, leaving the capital off the primary tourist route.

Yaman emphasizes the need for better international promotion and the utilization of the city's thermal resources in districts such as Kızılcahamam, Haymana, and Ayaş. Beyond its capital identity, the city offers diverse attractions including Anıtkabir, the Ankara Castle, and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, as well as traditional areas like Hamamönü and historical sites such as Gordion and Beypazarı.
