Anloga Junction traders face losses as soldiers demolish structures

Soldiers have demolished container shops and wooden structures at Anloga Junction in the Oforikrom Municipality of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. The military-led operation targeted commercial structures used by traders, taxi drivers, tomato cargo drivers, and plywood workers.

The demolitions occurred nine days after local workers protested against an eviction notice issued by a private developer. The affected operators, who claim to have conducted business at the site for over 45 years, had challenged the developer’s ownership documents and called for the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly to intervene.

While the developer intended to begin a project on the land, the dispute over ownership and the legality of the eviction remains unresolved. The destruction of the structures has resulted in significant financial losses for the local business operators.
