Şanlıurfa supermarket explosion injures several people
A chemical explosion occurred at a supermarket in the Haliliye district of Şanlıurfa, Turkey, after a drain cleaner reacted with hot water. The incident took place in the Ahmet Yesevi neighborhood during maintenance work.
Reports indicate that between five and six people were injured, including three plumbers and three market employees. The victims sustained various burns and were transported to city center hospitals for treatment.
Emergency responders, including AFAD, police, and fire departments, attended the scene. AFAD officials determined that the chemical reaction produced toxic gas levels above normal limits, necessitating ventilation work to clear the storage area. Investigations into the exact cause and the handling of the chemicals are ongoing.
