ANMAT bans retatrutide products and cancels 25 drug registrations in Argentina

Argentina's National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) has issued several regulatory actions targeting pharmaceutical safety and compliance.

Under Disposition 6140/2026, ANMAT prohibited the sale, distribution, and use of any products containing retatrutide or retatrutida. The substance, which is marketed for weight loss and blood sugar control, is currently in the clinical research stage and lacks sanitary authorization. The ban covers all batches and presentations, including those sold via electronic platforms and social media, as the safety and efficacy of these unregulated products remain unproven.

Separately, ANMAT canceled 25 medicinal specialty certificates belonging to 15 different laboratories via Disposition 5866/2026. This measure was taken because the certificates had expired and the companies failed to initiate the required renewal process within the mandatory 30-day window prior to expiration. Affected companies include CSL Behring, Lafedar, and Takeda, among others, and are prohibited from manufacturing or marketing the affected products until they regularize their status.

Additionally, ANMAT revoked the sanitary licenses of the drugstore Royal Farma S. A. in Buenos Aires after discovering the company had submitted a fraudulent establishment registration certificate during a provincial procurement process.
