Ann Arbor downtown visitation increases to 19.7 million in 2025
A recent report from the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority indicates that downtown Ann Arbor saw 19.7 million visits in 2025. This represents a 2.4% increase from 2024 and a 6% rise compared to pre-pandemic levels.
The report highlights an 11% increase in pedestrian activity. Local business representatives suggest this growth is driven by a consumer preference for supporting local establishments over large retailers.
However, DDA Executive Director Maura Thomson noted that employee visits to the downtown area have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels, declining approximately 11% since 2019. This trend suggests the daytime economy has not fully recovered. Additionally, the city saw significant residential growth, with 324 new units completed and 720 others under construction by the end of 2025.
