Ann Hui discusses film industry mindset and AI technology

Director Ann Hui addressed the current state of the film industry during an event for the film ‘Welcome to Long Restaurant’. Responding to frequent claims that the market is in decline, Hui noted that such sentiments have persisted for thirty years while filmmaking has continued. She encouraged industry professionals to maintain a positive mindset and look for niche opportunities rather than becoming discouraged by the external environment.

Hui also shared her views on artificial intelligence, stating that she does not resist the technology. She suggested that if used appropriately, AI can assist in film production rather than simply replacing actors. She noted that while some fear the technology, it can be viewed as a tool to enhance creative processes.

Actor Tin Kai-man also participated in the event, revealing that he is currently experimenting with the production of AI-generated short dramas. He expressed a desire to diversify his acting roles and discussed learning from both successful and unsuccessful cinematic works.
