Ann Hui to receive Camellia Award at Busan International Film Festival

Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui has been selected as the recipient of the Camellia Award at the 31st Busan International Film Festival. The award, established in partnership with Chanel, recognizes filmmakers who have made significant contributions to elevating the status of women in the film industry.

A veteran of the Hong Kong New Wave, Hui has directed 27 feature films and two documentaries since her 1979 debut. Her notable works include ‘A Simple Life’ and ‘Summer Snow’, both of which achieved a sweep of the major categories at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Her career has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival.

Hui, who is nearly 80 years old, expressed that while she previously felt hesitant to accept lifetime achievement honors while still wishing to make films, she now feels the timing of the award is appropriate. The Camellia Award will be presented during the festival's opening ceremony on October 6.
