Ann Jones: Three-time Grand Slam tennis champion

Ann Jones is a distinguished British tennis player and three-time Grand Slam singles champion. Born in Birmingham in 1938, she initially excelled in table tennis, reaching three finals at the 1957 World Championships before transitioning to a highly successful tennis career.

Jones achieved significant milestones in the open era, including winning the Wimbledon singles title in 1969 by defeating Billie Jean King, making her the first left-handed woman to win the tournament. Her Grand Slam success also includes two singles titles at Roland Garros in 1961 and 1966.

In addition to her singles achievements, Jones secured multiple doubles and mixed doubles titles, including Roland Garros doubles wins in 1963, 1968, and 1969, and mixed doubles victories at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 1969. Following her playing career, she served as a BBC commentator and held the position of vice president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
