Ann Patchett announces upcoming children's book and future projects

Author Ann Patchett has announced her upcoming literary projects following the release of her novel, Whistler. During an appearance at the Library of Congress’ National Book Festival, Patchett shared details regarding her future work, noting a shift toward essays and children's books.

Her next release, a picture book titled ‘Button at the Bookstore’, is scheduled for publication on February 2, 2027, via Random House Studio. Illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser, the story follows a dog adopted from a pound who finds a purpose working in a bookstore and assisting a young reader. Patchett also expressed interest in continuing to write essays for the New Yorker.

Her recent novel, Whistler, is a character-driven story centered on the reconnection of two individuals, Daphne and Eddie, after forty years. The narrative explores the lasting impact of a past car accident through a non-linear structure that moves between the event and the present day.
